Imagination according to Oxford English Dictionary is defined as â€Å"the minds creativity and resourcefulness to invent images which have the tendency to form ideas which do not correspond to reality.† In â€Å"The Playboy of Western World† by John Millington Synge, the presence of imagination directs the outcome of the play. Synge uses Christy as a substitution to the existence of boredom, fear and insecurity. Christy gave a remark â€Å"I did not then. Honor said â€Å"Well, it’ll be a hard case if he’s gone off now, the way we’ll never set our eyes on a man killed his father, and we after rising early and destroying ourselves running fast on the hill.† Synge’s word choice â€Å"never set our eyes on a man killed his father† indicates the isolation of people in the western word. Christy’s tale about killing his father has spread so fast that even people located on the hills run to listen to him retell the incident and present him with gifts. His imagination of becoming well known, respected and feared grows as he receives countless attention from the girls in the society. It can be said that Synge is comparing Christy to the Jesus. This is because according to the bible, after the birth of J esus, the wise men brought gifts to Jesus and worship him because he was the new born savior. The village girls are worshiping Christy because he is a new hero and a protector for them. Synge makes a comparison to how Christy was treated in his own society to this new society. The domino effect of the crimes ends up with offenders turning into victims and vice versa. A group of young men, self proclaimed as a gang of â€Å"droogs† dress up during the night in white outfits, hats and masks and go around the city committing street crimes, assaulting random innocent people, raping some and ultimately killing two. Within the gang of â€Å"droogs† there is a ringleader named Alex who dominates and intimidates the rest of the group, Dim, Georgie, and Pete. Hearing the police sirens, he attempts to flea and is stopped by his own gang at the front of the door where they smash Alex’s head with a glass of milk plus. This is an act of retaliation from when Alex had earlier intimidated and assaulted his fellow gang members. Although they are all offenders, they victimize Alex by setting him up for a crime that involved shared responsibility. While Alex is in interrogation, he is not given his due process to a fair and speedy trial. The cops assault him, allow Mr. Deltoid to spit in his face, and beat him. They cops do not remain objective which shows that the system is failing to properly conduct itself. After Alex is incarcerated, he shows no remorse for his acts. Instead, he manipulates the people around him while fantasizing about the violence within the bible. He hears about an aversion program funded by the government and acts accordingly to be picked for this type of plea bargain. The researcher even asked for suggestions and corrections from the respondents to ensure that the survey-questionnaire is effective.Automatically, these five respondents were not included as respondents for the study. Data analysis Data gathered will be analyzed through frequency distributions. These will give way to reviewing the data categories and the number of referrals in each category. The data acquired will be analyzed according to the different categories and importance.
